BIOSKETCH OF THE ARTIST
Brian Scruby was born in England and emigrated to the United States while in
his teens to pursue an education. Following school he went to work
with CBS in Washington D.C. as a director/producer/writer in the new
field that was emerging at that time called Television. As a TV
pioneer he worked with many of the personalities, and on many of the
early programs that set the directions TV was to follow for many years
to come. Following his years in Television he became a
Speech Writer and Policy Administrator, eventually opening his own firm
as a freelance writer and consultant.
Throughout the various steps of his
career, Scruby maintained his interest in art and formed the ideas that
today drive his artistic expression. "Basic to these ideas,"
Scruby says, "is the realization that art has to communicate with the
viewer and has to exhibit recognizable human attributes and
understandable human emotions. Art must never descend to the level
of Graphic Design, or Decoration. It must always have
something to say, and whatever that something is, it must always be
accessible to the viewer"
Not surprisingly, Scruby's artworks are
intensely realistic in their approach, and emotional in their impact.
He says that he never wants anyone to see one of his pieces without
understanding the basic humanity behind it.
