SCULPTURE
Brian Scruby's sculpture drawings in
graphite represent a personal history of the heroic and historical scenes he has
witnessed in his travels around the world. Included are The Venus De Milo, The
Three Graces, The Lions at Trafalgar, Michelangelo's Pieta, The Emperor
Charlemagne, King Louis XIV of France, Achilles and others. Many of the
works feature his interpretations of nationalistic and religious statuary that
was created by history's most gifted artists. Their works have lasted unchanged
through recorded time. Of these statues, Scruby says he is mindful of the
genius that created them and that he strives to honor that genius by breathing
life into the bronze and marble, turning statues back into flesh and blood.

David
(after Michelangelo) An
interpretation of Michelangelo's magnificent statue of David,

Scruby originally undertook this as a study of Michelangelo's
rendering of musculature, and of the figure's poise and balance.
